We are thirteen women who share a great deal in common. We are all members of the Tampa Bay Surface Design Guild. Most of us met through the membership in the guild. We are artists who have chosen cloth as our medium of expression. We create art cloth. We usually begin with white cloth (cotton, silk, rayon, linen) which has been prepared for dyeing. We then use many techniques including, but not limited to, dyeing, discharging, over-dyeing, silk screening, stamping, stenciling, foiling, stitching, beading, and laminaating with paper or metal to create the layers of design, color and pattern which produces art cloth. We somtimes start with dark cloth, usually black, and remove color by discharging and add color by over-dyeing and all the previously mentioned techniques which create art cloth.
